Last year in February, Sony showed off the PS4 console for the first time. Microsoft trailed behind them with their announcement, revealing the Xbox three months later in May. Today at Sony’s Developer Conference, SCEI President Andrew House announced why Playstation decided to announce the PS4 so far ahead of Microsft’s Xbox One.
“I think we were probably earlier in the announce than we have been previously, and that was very deliberate. I wanted to be out there first with the first announcement for this generation so you’ve got an opportunity to stake the ground and hopefully take something of a leadership position. Again, we’d had the experience of launching later than our competitor and that played very heavily to many of the thought processes and decisions made about PlayStation 4.”
Ultimately, it seems like the PS4’s early announcement ended up working out for the better for Sony as the console has sold more than eight million units since it launched last November.
