Often times, consoles launch with limited amounts of first-party accessories. This might be primarily due to the fact that companies, like Sony, have other things to worry about–like the worldwide launch of a next-gen console. That is where designers with expertise in peripheral development step in.
At E3 2014, Nyko Technologies kicked off its lineup of new accessories for the PlayStation 4. The company recently added another product to that band of sku’s. The Modular Charge Station will launch this fall at a $19.99 price point. It will provide wireless charging for two PS4 controllers, include NiMH batteries to install, and allow up to 25-hours of playing time.
The spirit of the Modular line is to customize the consoles for optimal performance in the most cost and space-efficient way possible,” said Chris Arbogast, director of marketing at Nyko Technologies. “The Modular Charge Station accomplishes that by letting players charge controllers directly atop their consoles — no wires or extra storage space is needed.
The most notable part about the charger is its top-sitting design. It plugs directly into the USB ports on the console, and can be used in partnership with other Nyko products. This is around the same amount of playing-time that the company provided for such accessories as the Pro Commander Controller for the Nintendo Wii U.
Players will no doubt, be without, a controller.
