It is no surprise to anyone connected to the world of gaming that a little hint or possibility of a rumor flips that electric switch. Any little inclination of a glimmer leads to almost endless debt , discussion, and theory crafting. Now, it is a goal to not perpetuate rumors but expressing possibilities. It may be a fine line, but it is one to dance about.
Kojima is All About Hidden Messages
That being said, less then 12 hours ago the video game twitter-sphere sparked a fresh flame when two old names in the industry popped up side-by-side. A picture may be worth a thousand words, but these two shoulder to shoulder have incited over a thousand favorites. In the screen shot below you can see the devilish grin and angelic smile that may hint towards something on a slightly grander scale. For those who do not know, the figure on the left is the recently media-buzzing Hideo Kojima. Still spiraling in the PR disaster of his falling out with Konami, novice and experts alike have been questioning what is the next step for this gaming icon. Not to mention that the salt is still fresh in the wound from having his name stripped from the cover of a front-runner for game of the year from a franchise he gave rise to, Metal Gear Solid.
The character standing to Kojima’s right is Mark Cerny. He has been involved in the gaming industry dating back to ’83, but his most important and relevant career changes came about a little later. Since 1996, Cerny has work exclusively in partnership with Sony’s PlayStation and in 2013 he was announced as the console’s lead architect.
The caption to the post reads the harmless “With my good friend.” and can be taken at face value as such. But anyone who follows Kojima to any degree can weight certainty in favor of two things: he does not stop working and enjoys subtle, hidden cryptic messages. If you don’t believe that, take a look over the Silent Hill franchise and ask yourself again.
Could this out reach to the digital world be one of these messages that Kojima enjoys taunting fans with? This is a distinct possibility. What could the hidden meaning be? Well, given that two of Kojima’s largest franchises, Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid, both started off as PlayStation exclusives, it is in the realm of possibilities that Kojima could be getting back to some sort of partnership, or least project, with PlayStation. Many conversations in the gaming atmosphere have centered around what would happen to Kojima and Konami respectively after their less than civil disbandment. There is nothing set in stone, but like it was mentioned, Kojima is not one for taking long breaks between projects. Something with Sony’s PlayStation may be rattling down the pipeline with a Kojima signature on the bottom in the foreseeable future.
It has been known that Sony was holding back their conference presence until Paris Games Week later this month. With a touch of hinting and a tad of speculation, a watchful eye would keep a look out Kojima crossing the stage October 28.
