We may hear something official about the so-called incoming PlayStation 4.5 or PlayStation 4K before October.
According to sources from The Wall Street Journal, the new consoled will “be announced before the planned October release of the PlayStation VR.” Sony so far has declined to comment on all rumors.
The WSJ’s source also mentions that, despite the more-powerful hardware, “it is likely that the current model and the coming one would share the same software catalog.”
It is rumored that Sony will release an upgrade to the PS4, referred to as the PlayStation 4.5, or PS4K; it is said that this console will feature a higher-power GPU than its predecessor, allowing the console to run games natively at 4K, while also upgrading the general performance of the console, — meaning faster loading-times and such — and better connectivity with PSVR.
