After months of anxious anticipation, the first game coming from Kojima Productions is what everyone initially and never expected, simultaneously. Legendary video game icon Hideo Kojima has spent the last few months dodging having to give explicit answers as to what the first game from his new, post-Konami studio will be. Finally, it seems that someone has pulled back the curtain and shared the first real taste of information on the project.
Thanks to the oddly titillating mysterious nature of Kojima and his associates, coupled with the thorough digging of fans, it appears that a little more information has been released. Prepare yourself for a treacherous and tormenting journey back to the nightmare of Hell on Earth that is Silent Hills.
HIDING IN PLAN SIGHT
Kojima is now known for his cryptic nature on social media. He has a history of teasing upcoming announcements months ahead of schedule with just a simple twitter picture or image caption. Such was the case when Kojima twitted a picture of Mark Cerny and himself months back. This created rumors of a deal or partnership between Kojima and Sony once he broke free from Konami; rumors that later turned out to be true.
Since the announcement of his own studio and a deal for exclusivity with PlayStation, the major question on everyone’s minds has been about what the game is going to be. Almost immediately after the announcement of Kojima Productions petitions began circulating the internet calling for Kojima and legendary film creator Guillermo del Torro to receive the rights to finish and release Silent Hills. To these cries for action, del Torro took to the internet, teasing signers about never underestimating the power a vocal group could have to change a couple of minds. The speculations thickened.
In much the same way, speculation and rumors began spiraling a few weeks ago as Kojima took to the internet once again. Only this time, he twitted out pictures of himself at a studio in front of Norman Reedus in a motion capture suit. For those who may have forgotten, Reedus was established as a central character in Silent Hills at the end of P.T.
WHAT HAS CHANGED
Early this morning, a Reddit user named 13AmijokOrroT13 posted a link to a video on YoutTube. At first, people posted questions as to the mysterious nature of the video; strange sounds, flashing images, etc. It was only once 13AmijokOrroT13 shared the hidden meaning behind the video that the gaming world caught fire once again.
Apparently once the video is separated frame by frame, the quick flashes of white seem to tell a story in their own right. Simplifying the message, the video breaks down to Kojima, del Torro, Silent Hills, 2019, and a new, full body still of Reedus’ character unlike any found in P.T. gameplay footage.
When clicking on the poster’s name, rather than being taken to a general video page you were instead redirected to the official Kojima Productions YouTube channel. The video has since been removed from YoutTube and the Reddit post has been flagged. Further information has yet to surface on the origins of the video itself, but the implications are surmountable.
All the while we have been pining for information as to the first game coming from Kojima Productions and optimistically wishing for the final realization of the Playable Teaser that engulfed and surpassed our expectations long ago. Now, the heartache of losing sight from a continuation to the Silent Hill franchise has been once again replaced with further hope and support for the resurgence of Silent Hills. May the series have the send off it always deserved and always remember to check the date of a posted article.
