Andrew Baldwin and I recently sat down for a live stream and played Messhof Games’ latest title, Nidhogg 2 for the PlayStation 4. In short, we had a blast.
When I first sat down to play Nidhogg 2, the first thing I noticed was how God-awful ugly the game looked. Luckily, when playing the game, the visuals were my last concern. And honestly, once I put a chunk of time into the title, the art-direction started to grow on me.
The goal in Nidhogg 2 is to make it all the way to the left/right of the screen before your opponent does. However, your foe respawns multiple times in front of you before you’re able to make it to the end. So it’s non-stop action the whole time.
Gameplay Reigns Supreme
While I had some fun playing the game’s single-player matches, the real party started when I began playing with friends. From bad-ass ninja throws to whacky level hazards, we were constantly engaged and could not stop laughing and trash-talking. The last time I had this much fun playing a fighting game was Super Smash Bros.. While the game isn’t as technically complex as Super Smash Bros.’ gameplay, it’s the same type of chaotic madness.
