The PS4 has amassed quite a number of licensed controllers from third-party developers, offering quite a lot of choices to suit the preferences of individual PS4 players. The newest one from HORI looks like it’s been designed to satisfy the taste of Xbox owners who’ve come over to “the other side”.
This is the new ‘Onyx Wireless Controller’ from HORI, and as you can see, it’s borrowed quite a bit from the Xbox controller design. The placement but of the thumbsticks and D-pad is exactly like that of the Xbox design, and even the shape of the Onyx’s body is very similar to the Xbox 360/One controller. Traits of the DNA from the DualShock 4 is still present, however. The Onyx Controller features a touchpad and it’s wireless, but that’s virtually the only real similarity between the two. There’s no lightbar, but there are dual vibration motors so rumble functionality is still present.
If this all sounds good to you, then you’ll be able to pick up the HORI Onyx Wireless Controller on January 15th in Europe—just a few days from now. For some reason, a price wasn’t given, but that info should release when the controller launches in retailers.
