Starting with some seriously awesome music, today’s announcement (the first of five, one every day up until E3) seemed like a really trippy rhythm game. The developers for it supported that impression, coming from the creators of Rez Infinite and Lumines. But it turned out to be a Tetris game (that could still very well have a rhythm element to it) called Tetris Effect. It even has VR support, which if the visuals and music are anything to go by it should be a fun and visually enjoyable ride. Never thought I would say that about a Tetris game.
There is a new mechanic called the “Zone” where once players reach it they can stop time to escape an untimely death. There will be 30 stages, each with an accompanying song and special graphics. And classic modes like Marathon, Sprint, and Ultra return as well as new ones.
Seem cool to you? Or are you disappointed that the countdown to E3 was kickstarted with a puzzle game? Check out the trailer below before you judge it too harshly.
