The folks over at Astro have been hard at work on their new headset for a while, but now the product has finally been released. Meet the Astro A50.
This headset is, according to Astro, capable of providing: “top-of-the-line acoustics, ergonomics, and durability that hardcore gamers demand.” That’s a pretty big promise. This new 2016 edition of the headset is a successor to the 2012 model, and is now Astro’s flagship model. The new-and-improved A50s also comes with a Base Station, thus its full title: “Astro A50 Wireless Headset + Base Station.” This new model comes with a number of improvements over the old 2012 edition: it features adjustments to the comfort and quality of the headset, refinements made to the audio and technological advancements. The new A50s feature Dolby Headphone 7.1 surround sound and they also come with built-in Mix/Amp technology, which gives the headset a whopping 15 hours of battery life on a single charge. If you’ want to adjust the headset in order to really suit you, there’s also an optional Mod Kit that allows users to swap out the headband and ear cushions in order to improve both the noise cancellation and comfort. In addition to the headset, the Base Station has also gotten an update: it now features a 5GHz wireless transmitter, which has been built to provide clear voice communication with low-latency. It also makes the pairing and charging process with the headset a lot more simple than before.
If you’re a PC gamer, then you have the privilege of gaining access to the Astro Command Center software. This will allow you to adjust different things like the side tone, mic levels and noise gate. You can further customize your experience by also making individual changes to the game volume, mic and AUX channels and chat audio. The Command Center will also allow you to update the firmware of the headset and base station.
Here’s what Astro had to say about the many improvements that have been made to the new A50s:
“We’ve optimized the new A50 to make it the best fully wireless companion for your next-gen console and PC. The A50 represents Astro’s commitment to delivering superior audio products and highlights our focus on providing gamers with the most immersive and customizable gaming experiences available.”
