Developer Red Barrels announced that Outlast 2, the sequel to the critically acclaimed 2013 survival horror title Outlast, will finally arrive on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on April 25, 2017 in North America and on April 28th in Europe. The game will be available both retail and digital.
Outlast 2 was originally supposed to launch sometime in late 2016, but Red Barrels needed more time for its development, so they pushed it back to early 2017.
You can read Outlast 2’s overview below:
Outlast 2 is the sequel to the acclaimed survival horror game Outlast. Set in the same universe as the first game, but with different characters and a different setting, Outlast 2 is a twisted new journey into the depths of the human mind and its dark secrets.
No conflict is ever black and white. But once the dust has settled, the victors get to decide who was right and who was wrong. Who is good and who is evil. Human nature pushes us to extremes of violence and depravity, which we then justify by divine inspiration and a promise of paradise to come. Horror rises from desperation and blind faith. OUTLAST 2 will test your faith, pushing players to a place where going mad is the only sane thing to do.
You are Blake Langermann, a cameraman working with your wife, Lynn. The two of you are investigative journalists willing to take risks and dig deep to uncover the stories no one else will dare touch. You’re following a trail of clues that started with the seemingly impossible murder of a pregnant woman known only as Jane Doe. The investigation has lead you miles into the Arizona desert, to a darkness so deep that no one could shed light upon it, and a corruption so profound that going mad may be the only sane thing to do.
Outlast 2 will cost $29.99 USD when it launches.
Red Barrels and publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment have also announced another thing regarding Outlast, which sounds even more intriguing. Outlast Trinity, a physical bundle that packages the upcoming Outlast 2 with Outlast and Outlast Whisteblower, will arrive on both the PS4 and Xbox One on April 25th in North America, and on April 28th in Europe. It will be available both for the PS4 and Xbox One.

Outlast 2 –
The sequel to the original critically acclaimed game, Outlast 2 is a twisted new journey into the depths of the human mind and its dark secrets. Blake Langermann, a cameraman working with his wife Lynn, must take risks and dig deep to uncover the stories no one else will dare touch. As the two follow a trail of clues that started with the seemingly impossible murder of a pregnant woman known only as Jane Doe, the investigation leads them miles into the Arizona desert to a darkness so deep that no one could shed light upon it, and a corruption so profound that going mad may be the only sane thing to do.
The original Outlast game released in 2013 and takes place in the remote mountains of Colorado where horrors wait inside Mount Massive Asylum. A long abandoned home for the mentally ill, Mount Massive Asylum was recently re-opened by the “research and charity” branch of the transnational Murkoff Corporation, and has been operating in strict secrecy. Acting on a tip from an anonymous source, independent journalist Miles Upshur breaks into the facility and what he discovers walks a terrifying line between science, religion, nature and something else entirely. Once inside, his only hope of escape lies with the terrible truth at the heart of Mount Massive.
Outlast Whistleblower is DLC that tells the story before and after the events of Outlast to show the final chapter in Mount Massive Asylum’s story. Players take on the role of Waylon Park, a software engineer under contract with Murkoff, who identifies with the poor souls housed in the facility. Fuelled by his anger, the stage is set for the unmasking of Mount Massive’s rotten core.
Kevin Kebodeaux, Senior Vice President, Sales, Americas, Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment had to say the following thing:
“Red Barrels has made a name for itself in the survival horror genre with the original Outlast game. We look forward to working closely with this great group of developers to bring Outlast Trinity to gamers around the world.”
Co-Founder Philippe Morin, Red Barrels added the following:
“We’ve been lucky to have such an amazing fan base, and none of this would have been possible without their support. Ever since we released Outlast in 2013, a physical version has been one of the top requests, so we’re obviously thrilled to finally give people the entire series in one bundle of terror.”
Warner Bros. didn’t publish the first Outlast game, nor is it publishing the upcoming sequel (Red Barrels is handling that itself). Warner did only agree into publishing the upcoming collection, which will cost $39.99 USD when it ships.
