If you’re a fan of the Metal Gear Solid franchise and you’ve been following the latest news and trailers then you may be aware of the rumour that one of the demonic figures Snake sees in Hospital Escape Gameplay trailer for The Phantom Pain has been rumoured to be none other than Colonel Volgin from Metal Gear Solid 3. Surprising, since he was dead last time we checked.

The only clue we had that Volgin might be back was from a few physical similarities between the two characters but other than that it wasn’t clear. Now it seems that rumour may well be true since Square Enix released a set of Metal Gear Solid action figures, some of which are from The Phantom Pain.

The figure in particular that seems to have given the game away is the fire demon. Not only does he look like Volgin but the figure is also holding bullets in his hand just like Volgin did in Metal Gear Solid 3. It seems that Volgin is indeed back in some way but it should be noted that considering the supernatural elements seen in The Phantom Pain trailers, he could be a figment of Snake’s imagination rather than being back from the dead.

So far Konami and Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima have remained silent on the leak. You can check out the pics below that were put together by VGS to show you the similarities.
