The Warriors series has always been criticized for being a repetitive and carbon copy series for over a decade now. The fourth installment in the Orochi series is hitting PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch in the near future. The latest entry appears to be much the same as previous titles, and fans will rejoice at this knowledge.
Koei Tecmo recently released Dynasty Warriors 9 this past February to solid positive acclaim from reviewers, but failed to capture hardcore fan love. The formula for the series was shaken up too much with an empty and seemingly pointless open world implemented. Many characters’ unique weapons and fighting styles were removed for a “more realistic,” approach to Dynasty Warriors. The combo system was watered own as well, which made the game more accessible for newcomers to the series, but this is exactly the opposite of what the fanbase wanted.
New to the Series
With this new release, Koei Tecmo may be able to recover from its backlash with the release of Dynasty Warriors 9. The gameplay from previous Warriors Orochi games appears to be kept in tact with new features added for some variation on the formula. There is no open world with this installment, which is a great start. The newest gameplay mechanic that can be identified in the announcement trailer is the inclusion of “Magic” attacks. These appear to be able to be used by a single character, but also in groups such as a True Musou attack in previous entries.
As pictured above, the latest new character is Zeus, which falls in line of the Orochi series using old Gods and famous war generals and figures in its game, like Achilles. This installment houses an immense collection of 170 characters to play as across the Dynasty and Samurai Warriors franchises, the largest roster yet.
Does this latest installment in the Orochi series have you excited for a return to Musou form? We’ll see how the game shapes up on October 16, 2018 when Warriors Orochi 4 hits all current consoles. Check out the announcement trailer here:
