Naughty Dog was met with a lot of criticism after its second trailer for The Last of Us Part II debuted during Paris Games Week last year. The trailer featured some intense and graphic moments of characters brutally fighting each other to stay alive. Needless to say, it didn’t sit right with a lot of people. While I’m not going to dive deep into which side of that argument is correct, there is one thing that’s for sure, internet outrage will not affect Naughty Dog’s vision for The Last of Us Part II.
In the latest gameplay trailer for The Last of Us Part II that debuted a couple days ago during Sony’s E3 Showcase, things get even more gruesome than the aforementioned story trailer. From realistic throat slicing to watching intestines fall out of a person hung by the throat, this dark and immersive world isn’t for gamers with a weak stomach.
During our E3 2018 coverage, Andrew and I discussed the matter and discussed the impressive gameplay unveiling of The Last of Us Part II. We also dive into the story elements and the (seemingly) time-jumping plot of the horror action title.
My take: The Last of Us Part II is my personal most anticipated game. I loved the original, it hit all the right notes when it came to story, characters, and gameplay throughout its emotional journey of a man and young girl trekking across the U.S. A truly daunting, unforgettable experience. I’m personally happy that Naughty Dog is letting its imagination run freely while developing this highly anticipated post-apocalyptic sequel. The Last of Us Part II is set in a dark and brooding world, there should be no limit on what happens within it.
